On 27th December 2011, the new Board of the Venice Biennale chaired by Paolo Baratta appointed the Directors of the Architecture and Cinema sections.
David Chipperfield was appointed Director of the Architecture Sector with the specific responsibility of curating the 13th International Architecture Exhibition, which will be held at the venues of Giardini and Arsenale from 29th August to 25th November 2012 (preview on 27th-28th August). Alberto Barbera was appointed Director of the Cinema Sector for a four-year term. The 69th Venice International Film Festival will be held at Venice Lido from 29th August to 8th September 2012.
On 17th January, President Paolo Baratta, accompanied by the Director of the 13th International Architecture Exhibition, David Chipperfield, met at Ca’ Giustinian with the representatives of 41 Countries participating in the 13th Intl. Architecture Exhibition (29th August to 25th November; preview on 27th-28th August 2012). The meeting was attended for the first time by the representatives of Kosovo, Kuwait and Peru. The title chosen by David Chipperfield for the 13th International Architecture Exhibition is Common Ground.
The special project, Biennale Sessions is back on the occasion of the 13th International Architecture Exhibition, aimed at Universities, Academies of Fine Arts and Higher Education Institutes. La Biennale will offer every group of at least 50 participants (teachers and students) from one education institution the possibility to stipulate an agreement granting special attendance conditions and benefits.
