АCSA Conference in Barcelona June 2012
This announcement is about the international conference that Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) is preparing for Barcelona in June 20-23, 2012. Perhaps you will recall that I mentioned this conference when we were in Chania recently. It is the first time in six years that an international conference will be held. Our goal is to have a truly international and diverse event.
The purpose of this message is to share more information about the conference, encourage you to mark your calendar and plan to attend. Co-Chair Xavier Costa and I would also ask that you encourage faculty from your institution to submit proposals in order to present papers at the conference and participate on panels.
(Please see the website http://www.acsa-arch.org/programs-events/conferences ).
The overall theme of the conference is Change: Architecture Education Practices, which will give us an opportunity to talk about evolution of the profession and education and how they might inform each other. There will be sessions devoted to change in the following specific areas: civic engagement, academia, practice, cities, technology, globalization, sustainability, and an open theme. These themes will be discussed in concurrent sessions over three days. Each session will be comprised of about four 20 minute presenters. Every evening there will be a special lecture or panel discussion.
The conference is a unique setting where academics from around the world are able to share their work and discuss the common issues facing architectural education. Please consider submitting an abstract of a paper you might be working on to the conference and please encourage faculty from you school to do the same. Abstracts will be accepted until January 12, 2012. Those accepted for the conference will have the full papers due by June 1, 2012.
My co-chair of the conference Xavier Costa and I look forward to seeing you in Barcelona next year. Many thanks for your interest and collaboration.
Sincerely,
MARTHA THORNE
